Hello Gabe,
hello everybody,

I've tried to install the game on my girlfriends laptop and it updated correctly.

The problem:
Whenever I click at 'Join', a window will open and close automatically within a blink and nothing happens.

I've read some topics in this forum (where 'Gale' has been answering) and did some de*- and reinstallations with different java-versions. Nothing worked. (*deinstallation: delete the folder 'Fantasy Tales Online' in 'AppData')
However, I tried it on my own PC (same network) and it worked - I can login into the game and play.

Short summary:
Game works on my PC but not on the Laptop.
PC and Laptop are in the same network.
PC and Laptop work both with Win 10.
PC and Laptop are both 64bit-systems.
PC and Laptop drivers are up-to-date.
PC and Laptop actually have the same java-version (Version 8 Update 73 - Build 1.8.0_73-b02). (On Laptop I tried 1.8.0_73 and 1.8.0_74 with x86 and x64, there were no difference at all).
PC and Laptop have the same Microsoft Visual C++ versions.

Back to the laptop, I looked up this specific path: C:\Users\XYZ\AppData\Roaming\Fantasy Tales Online\client

There exists a) RunLog302664523367_ and b) RunLog302664523367_.err with this content:
(I regularely checked the .err log every time I did a change --> it was always the same first line)

a)
Code: Select all
Starting client.
Current dir: C:\Users\XYZ\AppData\Roaming\Fantasy Tales Online\client\.
Homedir dir: C:\Users\XYZ\AppData\Roaming\Fantasy Tales Online\client

I am to noobish to use that 'hint' about 'LWJGL display'.

If some specific datas are missed, I'll be glad to be informed so I can edit this post.

I hope to be able to play this game with my girlfriend in the near future! :)

Greetings,
Cidar

Might want to double check that your video card drivers are up to date. Even if Windows says they are, they could possibly still not be, go to your video cards manufacturer and download the latest drivers for your card.

If you go start - > run/find and type "dxdiag" and go across to the display tab, it should show your video card model. If that doesn't show it, just google your laptops model and you should be able to find everything your looking for.

Hello Liberator,

it works! Thank you for the link.

Okay, I double checked my video card driver and it is up to date.

It's probably the combination of 'Windows 10' and 'Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000' like the advice in your link:
In addition, if you are using an "Intel HD Graphics" or "Intel HD Graphics 3000" chipset, see the instructions at the top of this page.

--> Instructions at the top of this page:
On first- and second- generation Intel HD graphics chipsets, a Java version below 8u60 is needed on Windows 10. The new Minecraft launcher available on minecraft.net/download as a .MSI should automatically resolve issues on these chipsets.

So if I deinstall 'Java version 8 Update 73' and install 'Java version 8 Update 51' it works.

On the Java website I can read:
We highly recommend that you uninstall all older versions of Java from your system.

Will there be a 'new Fantasy Tales Online launcher' in the next future, like there seems to be a new Minecraft launcher for this problem as well?
I guess there are other topics with higher priority at the moment? :P

For the moment I can use it on both, PC and Laptop --> Thank you!

Greetings,
Cidar

Cool, thanks for investigating this for us!

I'll see if I can put up some kind of warning for the user for now. I probably wont mess with the users' java version automatically.
